Acqua di Genova was created in 1853 by the well-known and famous perfumer Stefano Frecceri for the Savoia royal family. Quickly, this fragrance became an irreplaceable part of the morning toilet of every major figure of the time. Acqua di Genova was used by all of Europe's royal houses at the time with great passion. In those years even such illustrious people in contemporary history as Camillo Benso, Count von Cavour and Constantino Nigro, foreign minister at the time, did not use this fragrance to enrich their personality and to give their appearance the finishing touch. King Vittorio Emanuele II was so impressed by the Acqua di Genova that he, to express his appreciation, gave Stefano Frecceri and the Colonia Acqua di Genova the honor of the royal house by royal decree on March 28, 1866 and appointed him official purveyor to the court. In particular, the fresh, valuable and classic note of the fragrance also contributed to the fact that Virginia Oldoini, the Contessa di Castiglione, at that time praised as one of the most beautiful women in Europe, fell in love with the fragrance. This noblewoman was known for her charm, her style of dress and her demeanor and was therefore a role model for many men and women. She soon became the favorite at the French court of Napoleon III. Her charisma is so great that all women at the French court imitate her and, last but not least, make ample use of the Contessa's favorite scent, Acqua di Genova. The fame and fame of the Acqua di Genova fragrance became more and more widespread and there were prizes and awards from all over the world for this special Acqua Colonia.
